FORMER CONGRESSWOMAN NANCY JOHNSON ENDORSES ROB SIMMONS FOR SENATE
(MYSTIC) - The Simmons for Senate campaign today announced the endorsement of former Congresswoman Nancy Johnson. Congresswoman Johnson represented Connecticut's sixth and later its fifth congressional district:
"Rob Simmons is uniquely qualified to serve as our next United States Senator. As a decorated veteran and CIA agent, Rob risked his life to defend our nation. As a legislator and Connecticut's Business Advocate, he fought for lower taxes, less government and jobs for Connecticut families," said Johnson.
"One of Rob's unique qualifications, and one that will enable him to be effective from day one, is his Senate experience gained at a time when the Senate was an effective, thoughtful and far more balanced body. As Republican staff director of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Rob knows how Senators can and must work together and, equally important, how to use the far more open Senate floor process to amend bills to build stronger solutions through bipartisan action.
"As our next United States Senator, he will bring honor and integrity to the office. I am proud to endorse his candidacy," added Johnson.
"I am honored to have the support of Congresswoman Johnson," said Simmons. "For decades, Nancy fought tirelessly for the residents in Connecticut's fifth district. And for a few years, I was given the opportunity to join her fight for lower taxes, quality affordable health care, and a strong national defense. I welcome her to our growing team in the fifth congressional district and throughout the state."
Congresswoman Johnson served as a member of Congress representing Connecticut's sixth and later its fifth district for 24 years from 1983 - 2007. She served 18 years on the House Ways and Means Committee, including as chairwoman of the House Ways and Means Subcommittees on Oversight and Health, and authored major health care and tax legislation. She also served as Chairwoman of the House Ethics Committee. Prior to joining the Congress, Johnson served as a State Senator from New Britain from 1977 - 1983. Johnson currently serves on the Board of Visitors for the United States Naval Academy, the Board of Directors of E-Health Connecticut, and the Board of Trustees of John Marshal Law School among other positions.
